J EXCHANGE VISITOR SERVICES (JEVS)
J SCHOLARS
J Scholars are aliens who have been selected by NMSU to participate in the NMSU sponsored exchange visitor program in the J-1 visa classification. Duration of stay of an exchange visitor is determined by the category designated on the DS-2019 document prepared by an RO or ARO to allow the exchange visitor to obtain the J-1 visa. A Professor or Research Scholar may stay from 3 weeks to 5 years; a Specialist from 3 weeks to one year; a Short-term Scholar for 6 months. Location of the exchange visitor’s site of activity may be anywhere within the NMSU system or with affiliated organizations anywhere in the U.S. Funding for the exchange visitor’s expenses to carry out the proposed activity may be from NMSU, the U.S. Government, an International Organization, Visitor’s Home Government, or from other organizations that guarantee in writing the support being provided.
